Hidden jewel of the Juniper Prairie. Those privileged to stay at the secluded cabin next to Sweetwater Springs enjoy a unique experience of Florida difficult to imagine.
Some 8 million gallons per day of pristine water emerge from two small openings in the forest to form a crystal clear pool under a towering live oak. The spring waters spill almost immediately into the lovely Juniper Springs Run which in turn feeds into Lake George three miles further downstream. Hikers can turn westward and explore the Juniper Prairie Wilderness, one of the most remote areas in our region. Alligators and deer are common and black bears are somewhat less frequent visitors.
Weeklong lodging in this splendid setting on federal land is based on a lottery system. The cabin comes equipped with canoes for exploring the renowned Juniper Springs Run. Stargazing and campfires make nighttime at Sweetwater Springs equally rewarding.
